Building a functional summer wardrobe with staples you can mix and match to wear for different occassions is easier if you start with the basics. These, of course, are relative and may change every decade. However, if I had to choose 3 pieces you definitely need now in your summer wardrobe, I’d name the following:

1.  A breton striped tee. This one is the king of basics. You can virtually throw it on top of  anything and it is a real life-saver if you are in a rush and want to look put together within minutes. Pair it with cut off denim shorts and sneakers for a weekend casual laid-back look. For work, you can wear it underneath a blazer and with tailored trousers and heels. To go out, you can combine it with a leather skirt and strappy sandals and you are good to go.

2. A lightweight boyfriend blazer. This is a piece that will instantly elevate any look and at the same time it is a good piece to throw on during cool summer nights. You can dress up a pair of boyfriend jeans with a blazer and heels for work.

3. Cut Off denim Shorts. Perfect for hot summer days and lazy sundays. However, you can still dress them up for a night out with a leather jacket, a white shirt, and strappy sandals.

What are your basics for summer?
