I don't know about you guys, but personally, when I thought about wearing a dress over pants some years back I would have easily said, "Hell no.".  The idea made me picture a pink, big ass tulle dress worn over printed trousers. That's not the kind of man-repelling outfit I'd  go out with in public.  However not all dresses are created equal. A shirt dress, for instance, is a super versatile piece that can be worn in a wide variety of ways: as a top, as a tunic, as a duster coat, or as a layering piece for the colder months.

So, when is it appropiate to wear a dress over pants? I've narrowed the details down to 3 things: 1) the dress must be similar to a top or a longer version of it and have buttons or a drape detail like this one I am wearing from C/meo Collective  2) You must be able to open it in the front or have slit details 3) the pants should be able to peek enough through the dress, so that you can actually tell you are wearing them and not only the dress.

What about you? Do you have any other tip on how to wear a dress over pants that I might have overlooked? Let me know in the comments below.
