If there is one must-have accessory this season that will instantly refresh your look, it is the belt bag. That's right: That most loathed of 90s trends, the bum bag, started to make a resurgence last year, but with a more luxurious, flattering, and updated look. Find out how to wear a belt bag without looking like a 90s fashion victim.

I'm not one to follow trends religiously and God knows how much I despise a lot of 80s and 90s trends having a comeback (biker shorts, anyone? No, thanks.). However, this particular trend making a comeback has had a total make-over. Forget about the nylon fanny pack you wore in primary school, because this season belt bags come in luxurious, sleek leather and become styled in elegant and sophisticated ways, which are even work-appropiate. That's right: the belt bag can steer clear of 90s nostalgia and give just the right luxe edge to the most basic of outfits and even accentuate your waist.

Below you find 4 modern ways on how to wear a belt bag and own it:

1. Belted over outerwear. Wear your belt bag over checked or houndstooth blazers, trench coats, long coats, and cardigans. If you ask me, this is an ingenious way to cinch your waist and accentuate it in a discrete way.

2. Underneath a coat. Try wearing it instead below your coat and as a belt for your trousers or jeans.

3. Swinging over the shoulder. Beware, crossbody bags, since you have a rival. Instead of wearing it conventionally, go ahead and wear your belt bag substituting a crossbody bag.

4. Over a jumpsuit, midi, or mini dress. Yet another creative, understated, and straightforward way to accentuate your waist is by cinching your dresses or jumpsuits with a belt bag instead of a normal belt.

So that's about it. How about you? How would you wear a belt bag? If you have a different way to wear it than the ones mentioned, let me know in the comments below.

Wishing you all a happy Sunday! x
