Outfit Recap | The Best Outfits Of 2016 Part II

During the past year, I’ve realized that there is a huge difference between people who really love fashion and people who just love shopping (though, of course you can love both). The former buys something, where craftsmanship and the love of  design play the main roles and are the main factors, whereas the latter shops for the sake of shopping. This is why you’ll never, ever find the former doing shopping sprees, but instead carefully selecting what they think they’ll love/wear forever.

Personally, I hate shopping, since obviously I don’t need more clothes, shoes, nor bags, which is why it makes me feel kinda guilty. This is the main reason why I mostly take months and even sometimes up to a year to finally buy something I truly love and which I believe I will wear always, even if I don’t need it. I think everything is just about finding a balance and being careful in selecting pieces that fit right, are comfortable, and wearable (that’s why last year I stopped purchasing shoes that have a heel higher than 8cms).

There is are also that kind of person who wants to actually express something with their outfits and the other type who just seeks outfit inspiration to get ideas in order to solve the ‘burden’ to get dressed everyday. This is why the latter looks exclusively for practical, casual outfits. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with either kind and you can indeed create something unique and practical and at the same time express something with it. However, fashion is about having fun and playing with proportions and silhouettes. Therefore, this might not always have a practical, casual outcome. And there’s nothing wrong with that, since fashion doesn’t always have to be practical, nor casual. It can be elegant, whimsical, it can be crazy, and it can even be highly impractical, as long as you feel comfortable and fabulous in it. Art and expression doesn’t always have to fulfill a function, it only needs to say who you are. This is the main reason why I mostly disagree with the ‘I only post what I really wear’ mentality. What if sometimes I only post something on my blog to express something, even if I didn’t wear it the whole day? Why is there something wrong with that? That’s right: there isn’t. My blog and my outfits are my outlet of self expression and even though my outfits are not always practical, they say who I am, plus if I feel comfortable and fabulous in them and this for me is more than enough. Additionally, I think fashion is about taking risks, getting out of your comfort zone, but most importantly: having fun with it.

The second part of my 2016 outfit recap consists of my best minimal luxe outfits posted last year. These are elegant monochromatic outfits with clear lines, playful silhouettes, and architectural elements. If I could dress like this every single day, I would, but unfortunately, now it’s too cold to wear something as playful as the pieces that warmer weather offers, which is why as you can notice these are mostly my summer outfits in contrast to my previous best outfits of 2016 part I consisting of casual, minimal sporty winter looks.
